Sweden is bringing forward its investment in its own military satellites. The first part of the billion-dollar investment will be launched this year, reports TV4 Nyheterna.

According to Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M), Sweden will be able to purchase around ten satellites for 1.3 billion kronor. The satellites will be used, among other things, to spy on targets in Russia and to provide early warning of long-range missiles and other threats to Sweden.

"But also so that we can get better at targeting and develop our long-range military capabilities," Jonson told TV4 Nyheterna.

In 2024, a Swedish military test satellite was launched into orbit via SpaceX. At the time, the plan was that the full investment would not take place until 2030.
