In the investigation that has been conducted, the measure is estimated to affect both undocumented immigrants and asylum seekers negatively – and several referral bodies mean that the abolition risks leading to asylum seekers avoiding dental care until the problems become acute.

The proposal, part of the Tidö agreement, is estimated not to save any money as administrative costs will increase. But according to Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) it is a political priority.

Even people in those groups who have the ability to pay should pay for their dental care, just like others have to do to a large extent, he says to Tandläkartidningen.

According to the investigation's proposal, people with so-called LMA cards, which show that you are an asylum seeker, will also in the future pay 50 kronor. Afterwards, the person's own funds are checked by the Migration Agency and can then be used to pay for the treatment. For undocumented immigrants, it is proposed that the 50-kronor dental care be removed completely and those who cannot afford it will have to seek assistance from the municipality, writes Tandläkartidningen.
