Voxzogo, whose active substance is vosoritide, is used to treat achondroplasia, the most common cause of disproportionate short stature.
It was approved in the EU in 2021 but was previously denied reimbursement by the Swedish Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV).
According to Dagens Medicin, the revised assessment is based on TLV’s introduction of new pricing principles for medicines for rare diseases.
Voxzogo can be given from the age of four months until skeletal growth has stopped. Tests have shown that children who received the medicine grew an average of 1.57 cm more per year, according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
The drug would have cost 1.9 million Swedish kronor per year without reimbursement, according to Dagens Medicin.
