Decision made on purchase of four air defense frigates as Sweden begins negotiations with supplier

The announcement will be made at a press conference on Tuesday, but no contract is expected to have been signed, according to the television channel.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) does not confirm that what will be presented on Tuesday concerns the ship purchases, but says, in connection with Monday evening's party leadership debate:

It is a big and important decision.

Kristersson and Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) have invited to a press conference aboard a Visby corvette in central Stockholm on Tuesday morning, but TT has not received confirmation that the news is about Sweden's purchase of frigates.

Also present at the press conference is Commander-in-Chief Michael Claesson.

The first Swedish frigate will be named HMS Luleå, which means the entire class will be called the Luleå class.
