The acquisition means that we now secure a domestic production capacity that can cover all of Sweden's needs for important antibiotics, not only in peacetime but also in high alert and in war, says Social Minister Jakob Forssmed (KD) at a press conference.
He points out that there are often situations today where there is a shortage of antibiotics.
This investment is central to ensuring access to antibiotics within Swedish healthcare and for strengthening Sweden's preparedness, says Jakob Forssmed.
Therefore, the state-owned Apotek Produktion & Laboratorier (APL) has signed an agreement to buy a factory in Strängnäs from Meribel Pharma Solutions.
On Thursday, the government decided on a supplementary budget that means APL will receive a capital injection of 700 million kronor to buy the factory. The Riksdag is expected to make a decision on the matter on June 17.
APL will gain access to the factory during the third quarter of the year.
