The government is classifying seven substances within the opioid group and is classifying two additional substances as hazardous goods. The decision comes into effect on May 6.
"The new substances belong to the nitazener group, which is extremely dangerous. We know that one of the preparations has caused fatalities and that another has been found in counterfeit medicines", says Minister for Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) in a press release.
The government has made the decision following a request from the Public Health Agency.
The two substances classified as hazardous goods have not yet been detected in Sweden, but have been found in other European countries, according to the press release.
