Sweden Takes Sixth in Ice Hockey World Championship After Close Loss

Sweden had to end the Ice Hockey World Championship on a low note. The women's national team lost the placement match against Switzerland with 2–3 and finished sixth in the tournament in the Czech Republic. A huge emptiness, says forward Linnea Johansson.

Sweden was eliminated by Finland in the quarterfinals after the Finns decided with a controversial 3-2 goal where the Swedes wanted a penalty in a situation before the decision.

The ladies' crown had to recharge for a match for places 5-6, but Switzerland won on Easter Monday.

There was a emptiness already after the Finland match. Another blow to the head after this – I don't know how to think, says Linnea Johansson to SVT.

It was the Luleå forward who in the middle of the second period slammed in 2-1 in the cross and for the second time in the match, the ladies' crown was in the lead.

Just over five minutes later, however, Switzerland equalized and with only three seconds left to play in the period, Rahel Enzler scored the decisive 3-2 goal on a counterattack.

It was a tough uphill climb and unfortunately, we didn't find our way back, says Linnea Johansson after sixth place in the World Championship.
