Daniel Ståhl won the men's discus for the 13th year in a row after a huge throw of 69.06 metres.
Ståhl won by a good margin, with Jesper Ahlin second on 60.66 metres. Wictor Petersson's 59.06 metres was enough for third place.
"It's wonderful, I'm incredibly proud to be half-Finnish. It's absolutely magical - I love Finnkampen," Ståhl tells SVT .
However, there was no long celebration for Ståhl. Immediately after the victory, he left the country for the next competition in Bellinzona, Switzerland, on Sunday.
"I'm jumping straight into the car to the airport," the discus star tells Expressen .
“Pop in the muscle”
In the men's high jump competition, things didn't go as well - Melwin Lycke Holm cleared his starting height of 2.01 but was then forced to abandon the competition.
On the first jump I felt a pop in my muscle. It feels terribly sad. It hasn't been the season I wanted, he tells SVT .
He chose to pass on the next height but made attempts at 2.09 and 2.12, failing both before choosing to quit.
Lycke Holm was one of the favourites in the competition, but had to settle for fourth place. In terms of points, it was a tie in the event. The best Swede was Svante Svensson, who managed 2.09. Finn Daniel Kosonen won with 2.12.
Decided tomorrow
The Swedish men lead by 20 points after the first day, 134-114. However, the Swedish women are 15 points behind, 128-143, despite finishing the evening with a triple in the 1,500 metres.
Wilma Nielsen took first place in 4:12.95. Four hundredths of a second later, Mia Barnett took second place. Yolanda Ngarambe took third place in 4:15.76.
Both Finnkampen titles will be decided tomorrow.
Sweden won the double - both the men's and women's competition - in Stockholm last year when Finnkampen celebrated its 100th anniversary. Two years ago, it was Finland that took a double victory in Helsinki.
