The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has summoned the Russian Ambassador to Sweden to mark its opposition to Russia's violation of Polish airspace yesterday, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs writes on its website.
"Sweden gives its full support to Poland, as a NATO ally and EU member. The Russian violations are unacceptable and pose a threat to European security", says Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard in a statement.
Poland's airspace was violated by Russian drones during the night to Wednesday. The incident occurred just before 04 and the drones were shot down by Polish and allied fighter jets. Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk then invoked NATO's Article 4, which states that the defense alliance's members should consult urgently when a member country feels threatened.
During the summons, Poland's right to assert its territorial integrity and defend its airspace was emphasized. Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine was condemned, according to the press release from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
