Despite Sweden previously defeating Ukraine 3–0 in the group stage, the semi-final was a completely different story. The Swedish start was weak, and the team quickly found themselves in a 0–2 deficit in sets.
In the second set, Sweden seemed to be in control with a 20–16 lead, but Ukraine turned it around with nine consecutive points and took the set 25–20.
The Swedes did not reach their previous level from the group stage and lost in straight sets, 0–3.
Sweden had hoped to lift the trophy in front of their home crowd in Ängelholm – therefore, the disappointment was palpable after the match.
We did not manage to get our game going today. They were better today and deserved the win, says Isabelle Haak to SVT after the match and continues:
It's very sad that the audience did not get a show from us.
Sweden's next task will be the bronze match against Romania.
Of course, we want a third place and will do our best to recharge and recover, says Haak.
In the final, Ukraine will face Hungary.
