There was no semi-final or medal game for Sweden, who finished third in their group in the intermediate round. Instead, they played a game for fifth and sixth place against Portugal.

The teams were tied throughout the game (14–14 at halftime). With six seconds left and the score 35–35, Portugal had one last chance. In the final second, Portugal scored the winning goal.

"A big disappointment," goalkeeper Mikael Appelgren tells Viaplay.

He had hoped to be able to contribute to a victory in fellow goalkeeper Andreas Palicka's very last international match.

"I wanted to be there and help him get a nice finish. Of course it's a disappointment," he says.

Sweden has already qualified for the World Cup next year.
