The number of guest nights at commercial accommodation facilities in Sweden increased by 3.4 percent during June, July and August. In number of nights, this corresponds to an increase of one million to the new record level of 30.8 million compared to last summer.
Hotels performed the strongest, with an increase of 4.5 percent. Campsites had 3.9 percent more guest nights, while youth hostels, cottage villages and commercial brokerage of private cottages recorded a decrease.
"Despite a low-conjuncture in Sweden, we see that the number of guest nights at commercial accommodation facilities is increasing in general throughout the country. It is primarily the hotels and foreign visits that are the driving force behind the development, but the campsites have also had a good summer", says Patrik Svensson, statistician at the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, in a press release.
