"The figure is the highest ever in a Swedish election," says Anna Nyqvist, head of the Swedish Election Authority, in a press release, about the sharp increase in early voting in this year's elections to the Riksdag and regional and municipal councils.
Over 3.7 million people voted early, representing about 55 percent of voters. This figure also marks an increase in early voting of nearly 19 percent compared with the 2022 election.
The most popular day nationwide was Friday, September 11, when nearly 360,000 people voted early. This is also the highest number of early votes ever for a single day of early voting in Sweden.
