Sweden will phase out its aid to Myanmar and in the long term terminate the development cooperation with the country, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs writes in a press release.

The decision is part of the reprioritization of Swedish aid to increase support to Ukraine.

"Ukraine is Europe's foremost line of defense and they are defending both their own freedom and ours. The reorganization of Swedish aid is therefore more important than ever", says Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa according to the press release.

No later than June 30, 2026, the development cooperation with Myanmar shall be completed. The decision does not affect the humanitarian support to Myanmar.
