Denmark wants a long-term NATO mission in Greenland. Sweden's Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) says Sweden is ready to contribute. "We are very open to it," he says.

Last year, NATO launched "Baltic Sentry" in response to repeated cable damage in the Baltic Sea. Denmark now wants to see a similar operation in Greenland - preferably together with the US.

"It's about an increased presence," says Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen, who was in Gothenburg on Tuesday.

My hope is that the Americans will also become part of the "Arctic sentry".

According to Pål Jonson, Sweden is open to participating in a NATO operation.

"We are ready to contribute, of course. But we will have to come back to exactly what type of contribution," he says.

NATO confirms that a new mission to strengthen security in the Arctic is being planned, AFP reports.
