The purpose of the proposals that the government is now submitting to the Legislative Council is to ensure Sweden is better prepared for future pandemics.

What we learned during the pandemic are lessons we must not forget, says Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) at a press conference.

Among other things, the government should be able to introduce restrictions to prevent the spread of infection by limiting the number of visitors at gatherings.

It will also be possible to decide on health checks for people travelling into Sweden from affected or nearby areas.

According to the bill, it will also be possible to move or isolate people in nursing homes.

The law will enter into force on April 1, 2027.
