The Minister for Civil Defence, Carl-Oskar Bohlin (The Moderate Party) calls the whole thing "cyber billion". A total of 300 million kronor in 2026 and 350 and 400 million kronor in the next two years, respectively. The money will be distributed between the national cybersecurity centre (NCSC) and the country's municipalities and regions.
Unfortunately, there are a number of events that highlight why this is important. We want our authorities that engage in socially important activities to handle their cybersecurity in such a way that they are not affected by this type of attack, says Carl-Oskar Bohlin to TT.
One of these was last year's attack on the IT company Tietoevry's data centre, which affected a long list of companies and authorities. In addition, several regions had to go up to operational mode. It was then stated that a Russian hacker group was behind it. However, Carl-Oskar Bohlin does not want to say that it is only about threats from Russia:
– It is clear that there are qualified cyber threats coming from Russia, but also from other states. Then there is a wider range of less qualified cybersecurity attacks, so it's not that simple to point out a single country.
Sweden's municipalities will now receive 200 million kronor annually, while for the regions it is about 50 million kronor.
