Swedish privacy watchdog orders Lexbase and Krimfup to restrict searches of criminal records

The Swedish Privacy Authority (IMY) has reviewed the legal databases Lexbase and Krimfup and found that the services have processed information about crimes “without legal support”.

IMY orders the companies behind the services Legal Newsdesk and Fuplex “to ensure that users cannot access such information when searching by name, personal identity number or address”.

The authority also criticises Nusvar and Upplysning Checknode, the companies behind the services Mrkoll and Upplysning, respectively. They have failed to uphold private individuals’ right to have their data deleted under the General Data Protection Regulation.

“Anyone can easily map us, for any purpose. However, it is now clear that search services of the kind we have examined need to uphold the right to erasure and comply with the requirements for processing information about crimes,” says Director General Eric Leijonram in a comment on the authority’s website.
