Sweden made an expected but good start to the European Championship. Afterwards, however, most of the discussion centred on the ice.
Both teams had difficulty adjusting to the sluggish ice. Isabella Wranå, an Olympic gold medallist in Italy last winter, had great trouble judging the speed.
“Like a fever dream,” Isabella Wranå was heard saying on the television broadcast. She later elaborated:
“It was very difficult. So far from what it usually is. It was a fighting effort by everyone on the team,” she says.
Sweden eventually won by four stones after Estonia gave up in the final round.
Team Wranå will face Denmark in their second match tomorrow.
