The Swedish women's handball team's meeting with South Korea on Friday evening will therefore be uninteresting in terms of results. According to Aftonbladet, it is the first time since 2015 that Sweden has missed the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
"It feels like crap. We had higher expectations," Sweden's assistant national team coach Johanna Wiberg told Aftonbladet .
Sweden's chances of reaching the quarterfinals of the championship played in Germany and the Netherlands were small even before Friday's matches.
Sweden only took two points into the intermediate round from the opening round, and after the 26–39 loss to Norway on Wednesday, the following was clear:
Sweden was forced to take full pot against South Korea and Angola, while Brazil was not allowed to take any more points in its two completed matches. But Brazil thus closed the Swedish World Cup door already against Angola.
