The proposed partnership in the defense area involves, among other things, that Ukrainian forces will be able to participate in "relevant military exercises", according to a document that the ten JEF countries have agreed on at Friday's meeting.
More cooperation on military training is also promised. Russia's invasion of Ukraine can be said to be the first full-scale drone war, and European countries think they have something to learn from them on that front.
The cooperation is welcomed by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, who together with leaders from the rest of the Nordic countries, the Baltic States, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom participated in the meeting.
Kristersson's Danish colleague Mette Frederiksen says in connection with the meeting that one must try all possible ways to strengthen Ukraine.
The best would be NATO membership, she says to the media.
And then Article 5 (on defending each other) could come into play. But we can't agree on that at present.
