The Swedish gaming industry is dominated by smaller companies, 90 percent of gaming companies have fewer than ten employees, but many of them are major commercial successes.
The Game Development Research Centre (GDRC) will bring together players in the gaming industry and four Swedish universities – the University of Skövde, Malmö University, Blekinge University of Technology and Karlstad University.
"Through GDRC, researchers and companies can collaborate right from the beginning of the research process. This makes it possible to find research questions and produce results that are directly useful for companies and of great scientific value," says Per Backlund, professor at the University of Skövde, in a press release.
The Knowledge Foundation is the main financier of the initiative and in total the foundation is investing over SEK 29 million in GDRC.
