The police will investigate how the number of places on the police training program can be increased.
"It's about investigating the conditions for establishing the police training program at an additional educational institution and about increasing the number of training places at existing educational institutions," says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) in a written comment.
The government expects that higher salaries for police trainees and a forthcoming proposal to write off student loans will make more people want to become police officers. The goal is for the number of police officers in Sweden to match the EU average.
The police will report their conclusions to the government no later than September 1 this year.
