Sweden is eliminated from the European Championship U19. This is clear after 0–1 against Italy.
The Swedish U19 national team started the championship in Poland with a 0–3 loss against France and had to take at least one point against Italy for continued hope of advancement. That did not happen and the Swedes saw themselves eliminated.
Giada Pellegrino Cimo made the only goal in a match that was even in terms of play, but where Italy was a notch more effective in decisive situations.
However, the final group stage match against Poland on Saturday still has some significance. There, it will be decided whether Sweden will grab a spot in the World Championship U20 2026.
In the Swedish squad, the super talent Smilla Holmberg is missing, who instead has been selected for the A national team that will play in the European Championship later this summer.
