Sweden didn't have much to offer in the semi-finals of the U18 Women's World Ice Hockey Championship. The U.S. won the match 9–1.

There was no final this year for the Swedish juniors either. The USA took the lead early, and in the second period Sweden's chances were effectively ended when the Americans scored five more goals.

Tilde Grillfors scored a consolation goal early in the third period, making it 1–7, but Sweden never got closer than that. Sweden will have to fight for the bronze medal with the loser of the match between Canada and the Czech Republic.

"I can promise you that these girls did everything they could. But in certain situations, you can't go faster than you can go. You can't be stronger in close combat than you are," national team captain Andreas Karlsson told SVT .

No one here has backed down, they have competed all the way. But there is a big difference.

Sweden has missed out on a medal in the last two World Junior Championship tournaments. The last medal came on home soil in Östersund in 2023, when it won silver after losing in the final to Canada.
