The new limit for what is considered petty theft – previously called pilfering – can now be 1,500 kronor.

Since 2019, the limit for what is classified as pilfering has been 1,250 kronor. Now, a man who has been caught twice for shoplifting goods worth up to 1,311 kronor has requested the Supreme Court to consider it as a petty offense. The Prosecutor-General does not object to this.

"Against the background of the prevailing price development, I believe that the value limit for petty theft should be raised to 1,500 kronor," says Vice Prosecutor-General Eva Thunegard in a press release.
