The meeting was held last Thursday in Paris with participants from President Emmanuel Macron's government and the Swedish government, including National Security Advisor Niclas Kvarnström.

"The route has been established, and the two countries have reaffirmed their ambitions for a stronger, safer and better defended Europe," a statement said.

"We have started discussing how we can cooperate on France's nuclear capabilities and our conventional capabilities. This was a kick-off meeting that France also holds with other countries," says Ulf Kristersson.

The coming months will show how the project develops, according to the Prime Minister.

"I think it is important that we are now involved in the conversations. We should not draw any hasty conclusions; this is a long-term issue."

The government has not had any new contact with the Social Democrats, who initially did not want to support the nuclear weapons dialogue.

"They gave slightly different answers on how they viewed this, and since then I have not investigated the matter further," says Kristersson.
