This is requested by nine member states, including Sweden.
"We (...) are writing this letter to reiterate our determination to live up to international law and respect the principles of the UN Charter", they write in a letter, which in addition to Sweden has been signed by Belgium, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain.
The countries refer to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) opinion that Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories is illegal and that the outside world must therefore refrain from trade with illegal Israeli settlements.
Although the EU Commission has mentioned that the issue is to be discussed, there is still no "initiative to start talks on how to concretely end trade in goods and services with the illegal settlements”, the countries write in the letter.
