On Saturday, a letter of intent was signed in Brazil between the countries' defense ministers Pål Jonson (M) and José Múcio in Natal. Now, negotiations between the parties involved are pending.

It is clear that it involves billions, but I do not want to preempt the upcoming negotiations. Of course, some steps remain, but important progress has been made today. There is a broad consensus from the Brazilian side and the Swedish side, says Jonson to TT.

In 2014, Gripen manufacturer Saab and Brazil signed a contract regarding the purchase of 36 Jas Gripen E aircraft. The contract is planned to be expanded by 25 percent, i.e. nine aircraft. So far, eight aircraft have been delivered to Brazil.

"We have taken note of the information and it is naturally pleasing for Saab and Sweden. We know that Brazil is very satisfied with Gripen as a fighter jet and we look forward to continuing the discussions", comments Mattias Rådström, press chief at Saab, in an email.

The current transport aircraft are of the type Embraer C-390 and are manufactured by Brazilian Embraer.
