Sweden Advances to U18 World Championship Final After Beating USA

It was a nail-bitingly even match – but in the end, Sweden got the upper hand and took the win against the USA in the U18 World Championship. "We played to win", writes national team captain Thomas Paananen in an email to TT.

The blue-yellow start was not the best, notes Paananen, but after the USA barely five minutes into the second period took the lead, the Swedes also got going on their skates and could equalize.

The third period was the real thriller. Not least when Sweden got two players ejected simultaneously – and for a short while played with three Swedish players against five American.

But the Swedes held out. And during the period, they scored two more goals.

"The third period is our best. We played to win the match. The winning moment was that we cleared 3–5 and scored 4–2-goal directly after", writes Paananen.

With less than five minutes left, the USA reduced to 3–4, but they didn't get any further and it was a Swedish win. Now, the final against Canada awaits during the night to Sunday, Swedish time, but the national team captain is brief about how they prepare themselves:

"We will prepare ourselves in the same way as before earlier matches", he writes.
