Sweden is to purchase four new military transport aircraft. The aircraft are of the C-390 type from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer.
The purchase is being made together with the Netherlands and Austria.
"Through this joint order, Sweden is now getting pressurized prices and faster delivery than if we had ordered alone. This decision gives the defense a tactical transport capability of the highest quality," says Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) in a press release.
The price tag for the planes is not known, but according to the Defense Department, it involves "multi-billion amounts".
The Netherlands is acting as an agent for the other countries in the deal. Final negotiations are currently underway between the Netherlands and Embraer regarding the delivery of the planes.
