Swede honored for breakthrough in pain research

Together with their research groups, they have identified the mechanisms that convert touch, vibration or pressure on the skin into nerve impulses. The Lundbeck Foundation, which awards The Brain Prize, calls this groundbreaking in a press release.

They have also mapped how the signals are transmitted to the spinal cord, where they are processed and relayed to the brain. The research lays the foundation for new treatments for chronic pain.

The prize winners each receive a gold medal and share 14.3 million kronor.
