This autumn it will be 70 years since the then Radiotjänst began regular television broadcasts in Sweden. It will be celebrated. Over 14 Saturdays starting on September 19, there will be a nostalgic thrill in "Sverige Live".
You dive deep into clips and return to popular programs and then viewers get to vote for the best clip, says Anne Lagercrantz.
Finals in December
Every Saturday, a special genre is introduced with guests from the shows we remember and highlights from the TV archive. Viewers then vote for their favorites, which will be revealed in a final broadcast on December 19.
Program hosts for the initiative will include Jovan Radomir, Farah Abadi and Mats Nyström.
SVT celebrates 70 years after a tough period with savings of 355 million kronor. How is SVT doing, 70 years on?
We have had a tough spring with cutbacks. But we are doing amazingly well. And I also believe that this time of concern is something that cannot be skipped. 100 people have had to quit and another 40 have been reassigned. But we continue to have a strong audience position, says Anne Lagercrantz.
More savings
In 2026, SVT received a three percent increase in funding. For the period 2027–2030, there will be a smaller increase, two percent per year.
This year's savings package takes into account the lower increase and there is no new need for savings at the moment, although cost increases may change this. When this year's savings package was announced, SVT also announced which programs would be cut. Lagercrantz does not want to give a new list of programs that may disappear in the future.
We've talked about which programs are being paused or shut down. So it's nothing beyond what we know now. But then we have to constantly look at how we can be as efficient as possible. But the idea of saving so much money was also to create greater peace of mind.
A large part of the savings came from SVT incurring higher costs for television broadcasting when all commercial channels stopped broadcasting on the terrestrial network. Last summer, the government sent out four proposals for consultation to compensate SVT for this, one of which involves full compensation.
Although that doesn't mean that fewer people need to quit SVT.
No, but it may mean that it is a program that we may not need to pause. It may mean that we can make some concessions where we feel it has become too tough.
