Under a couple of hours on Sunday evening, SVT had problems with its website due to a denial-of-service attack.
Even on Monday, the public service company was hit by similar problems, but on a smaller scale. By 10 o'clock, the problems were resolved.
Coordinated attack
According to SVT, the company was subjected to the same type of denial-of-service attack, but it had very limited impact on users and viewers. It is unclear what caused the problems.
We only see that the traffic comes from different countries. It's a coordinated attack, says Adde Granberg to SVT Nyheter.
Collaborates with MSB
SVT's operations are part of Sweden's total defense and are covered by the Security Protection Act concerning Sweden's security. Therefore, the authority MSB is also involved in the investigation into the attacks against the public service company.
It's an ongoing collaboration to see how Sweden can be prepared for attacks, which have intensified over the past few years, says Granberg.
The disruptions were related to SVT's apps and website, but it did not affect SVT's linear TV broadcasts or the ability to publish important messages to the public, according to SVT's press chief Camilla Hagert to Dagens Nyheter.
