In recent years, Svenska kraftnät has repeatedly returned some of the billions that the authority is holding in the form of so-called bottleneck fees.
The money is channeled to the electricity grid companies, not directly to customers.
“By returning bottleneck revenues to those who use the electricity system, we alleviate the effects of rising electricity prices,” Director General Maja Lundbäck says in a press release.
But whether the billions will provide direct relief for end consumers, and if so, how much, is unclear.
"Regional and local network companies must stay within decided revenue limits. This means that our fee reductions will reach customers where they are needed most," says Maja Lundbäck.
