The transmission between electricity areas 2 and 3 decreased when a line was disconnected after an alarm reported people had climbed power line poles outside Bollnäs.
In parallel, 500 MW of imports were lost from a cable between Poland and electricity area 4 in southern Sweden.
"To maintain operational reliability, support services were activated to such an extent that all bids in SE3 and SE4 were exhausted. We were therefore also forced to start four gas turbines," said Pontus de Maré, Operations Manager for Svenska kraftnät, in a press release.
The risk of a power shortage led the authority to raise the "yellow" flag, after which Sweden purchased a total of 400 MW from Lithuania and Norway.
Svenska kraftnät is now investigating how prices have been affected by the support services activated during the incidents.
