Svantesson (The Moderate Party) was invited to "Agenda" to answer questions about how the US President Donald Trump's tariffs affect the Swedish economy.
No one knows exactly what will happen, but we know that what is happening will affect European and Swedish growth. We have never experienced this, a trade war. It is negative, there is no doubt about that, she says in the program.
Last Friday, the EU's economy and finance ministers met at an informal meeting in Warsaw. Svantesson says that they agreed to stand united.
The EU stands strong, it is a larger market than the USA and now we must speed up the free trade agreements to reach a conclusion.
When asked how she views, for example, the Spanish finance minister opening up for more trade with China, Svantesson responds:
We have all been trading with China for many years. Then there are also aspects of that trade, certain products and services we do not want to trade. But we do trade with China every day.
She is also critical of Trump driving a stock market crash on his own.
The sad thing is that it did not have to be this way. The USA is a rich country. To see the stock market fall so dramatically just because one person has decided to start this trade war.
