Hedgehogs are endangered and now the authorities want to know more about the diseases and injuries they suffer. SVA urges anyone who sees a dead, sick or injured hedgehog to report it.
The person who reports it will be contacted by SVA to discuss possibly sending the hedgehog in for examination.
"More reports give us a larger information base so we can map the health and disease status of hedgehogs and see if there is anything that stands out," says Gete Hestvik, deputy state veterinarian and wildlife pathologist at SVA, in a press release.
The project is funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and will run through 2026.
