"The suspicions of crime have weakened and I no longer see reason to detain the individuals", says prosecutor Rasmus Öman in a press release.
The suspicions are, according to the prosecutor, not entirely dismissed yet and the preliminary investigation continues.
It was on Wednesday evening that Salwan Momika was shot dead in an apartment in Södertälje.
The five individuals who have now been released were arrested by the police during the following night.
Momika was charged with incitement against a group of people after he burned Korans in the summer of 2023. The verdict was to be announced on Thursday. Due to Momika's death, the charges were dropped, while the verdict against the co-defendant Salwan Najem was postponed.
After the Koran burnings, there was a threat against Salwan Momika.
He was well aware that there was a comprehensive threat against him. That there was a price on his head, as he himself put it, said his lawyer Anna Roth to TT on Thursday.
