Just as the security police themselves have said, they have been following him for a long time, says Deputy Chief Prosecutor Henrik Olin.
When the detention hearing began at noon, the 23-year-old denied terrorist offenses. He also denied one of the weapons offenses, but admitted to weapons offenses linked to his arrest.
He appeared via video link, wearing a gray shirt with an emblem for the Paris Saint-Germain football club, and with his defense lawyer by his side.
Prosecutor: Is it Hamas?
The prosecutor would not say in what way he believes the 23-year-old participated. But sympathy alone is not enough to be suspected of a crime, he emphasizes.
The only information I can provide is that Hamas is the organization referred to in the suspicions of the so-called crime of participation. But I cannot say what it looks like in more detail or how the suspicion is constituted.
The participation crime has allegedly been ongoing since August last year.
Arrested at his home
Neighbors told Sydsvenskan about a massive police presence when the man was arrested at his home on Tuesday. One of the two serious weapons offenses the 23-year-old is being held for relates to the day he was arrested.
Another person was also arrested on suspicion of committing a serious weapons offense, the prosecutor said.
That person has now been released, but the suspicions of a crime still remain, says Henrik Olin.
Regarding the second serious weapons offense, he said only that the suspicion applies to a longer period during late summer and autumn.
