A man from central Sweden has been arrested and detained on suspicion of espionage. The crime is suspected to have taken place over four years, and the government has been informed.

The person was arrested on Sunday and has been assigned a defense attorney, which Expressen was first to report. Säpo confirms the information.

One person has been arrested, and it is a case the Security Service has been working on for some time, where the suspicions concern espionage, says Johan Wikström, press spokesperson at the Security Service, to TT.

Wikström would not go into any details, such as which party the person had spied for.

We cannot say which country or countries, or which intelligence or security services he is said to have been connected to, says prosecutor Per Lindqvist at the National Unit for Security Cases.

The suspected crime was committed in Stockholm County and lasted from January 1, 2022, until January 4, 2026. The man is a resident of Central Sweden.

The case is not connected to any previous case that we have worked on, says Johan Wikström.

The prosecutor must request that the person be detained or not by Wednesday at the latest. The government has also been informed and is in contact with Säpo, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer's press secretary, Caroline Opsahl.

The man's defense attorney, Hanna Lindblom, cannot provide any details either.

I can't say a single word.
