According to police and emergency services, a man sprayed something near an ATM on the ground floor of the building, AFP reports.
A woman called police and reported a “pungent smell” and that “everyone was coughing,” police said, The Japan Times reports. The incident occurred at the Ginza Six shopping mall.
An AFP journalist at the scene saw two people being carried into an ambulance on stretchers.
Several people complained of symptoms, including a sore throat, after police and emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
