The Coast Guard boarded the ship, Sea Owl 1, in mid-March after suspicions that it was sailing under a false flag in Swedish territorial waters.
This weekend, the Swedish Transport Agency announced that the ship had changed its flag, from the Comoros to Cameroon, and was therefore not considered stateless. But now there is new information.
"We have just received confirmation from Cameroon that the flag change was false. This means that the ship cannot show a valid registration in the flag state of Cameroon," Ann-Sofie Masth, press officer at the Swedish Transport Agency, told TV4 Nyheterna.
This means the ship remains banned from use, according to Masth.
