Train traffic in Italy is suspected to have been sabotaged on the first day of the Olympic Games.

Contact wires for high-speed trains, among other things, were broken near Bologna's central station, an important hub, causing major delays on Saturday morning.

Authorities suspect sabotage that could be politically motivated, Italian media report. Italy's state railway company says the damage was not caused by a technical fault.

If it turns out to be a premeditated act just as the Olympics are starting, one must assume that someone wants Italy badly, one of the country's two deputy prime ministers, Matteo Salvini, says, according to the Ansa news agency.
