Since February, four people, pharmacists and doctors, have been detained on suspicion of defrauding the Stockholm Region and at least nine other regions of around 20 million kronor.
The fraud concerns licensed medicines linked to Botox, and the individuals are suspected of having charged the Stockholm Region significantly higher prices than the medicines were purchased for.
Now the Medical Products Agency has decided to close two pharmacies, one of which is described as having been the hub of the fraud ring.
During an unannounced inspection this week, we discovered things that could pose patient safety risks, and we closed the pharmacies immediately, says Annika Babra, head of unit in the supervision area at the Medical Products Agency, to SVT.
Correction: A previous version stated the wrong number of affected regions.
