In October, the woman, who was in her mid-40s, was found dead in the municipality of Vänersborg. A man in his 70s was initially arrested on suspicion of murdering her, but is now charged only with aggravated trespassing.
The preliminary investigation into murder has been closed due to evidentiary problems, prosecutor Robert Beckard tells TTELA.
The man has stated during questioning that they were both heavily intoxicated and fell asleep, and that the woman was dead when he woke up. He has admitted that he then hid the body outdoors near his home, under charred pieces of wood and other debris.
The man has previously been convicted of several violent crimes against women.
