The object was in a bag and was found at a location near the City Terminal. A person is then said to have taken it to another location. Subsequently, the police were alerted and called in the national bomb squad.
Several streets near Adolf Fredrik's Church were cordoned off during this time.
The object has been assessed as a sharp dangerous object, says Anna Westerberg, the police's press spokesperson.
The police are now working to gather information through interviews and are reviewing surveillance footage. No one has been arrested. The cordons in the area have been lifted and there is no danger to the public.
A preliminary investigation into preparation for general destruction and the law on flammable and explosive goods has been initiated.
