The alarm about the suspected object came at 11 o'clock. Police rushed to the scene and also called in the national bomb squad.
They have examined the object and have salvaged it from the scene. The investigation will show what the object is and whether it was live or not, says Nadya Norton, press spokesperson for the Stockholm police.
At 17.30, the cordons had been lifted and the police had left the scene.
The police have filed a report on preparation for general destructive rampage and crime against the law on flammable and explosive goods.
No one has been arrested.
