A total of 3,600 crimes against the EU's financial interests are being investigated, such as major VAT fraud, customs offences and incorrect claims for EU contributions. The economic damage is estimated at the equivalent of over SEK 700 billion, but the hidden figure is believed to be larger.

"Despite that, it amounts to this much money, and I don't think the national authorities or the EU were really aware of that before," says Martin Bresman, a European prosecutor from Sweden.

2025 was Sweden's first year in the EPPO. A total of 23 cases were reported, in which the suspected crimes involve almost two billion kronor.

My guess is that these numbers will grow in the coming years when it comes to Sweden.
