It was a person living at the address who found the object in their garden and called the police at 16.10 on Sunday. The National Bomb Squad was then called to the scene, and several buildings were evacuated and some residences were also cordoned off.
The initial assessment is that it is a live object, said the police's press spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin to TT at 19.45.
Shortly afterwards, the police announced on their website that it was a live hand grenade.
And shortly after 20.30, it was announced that the National Bomb Squad had carried out a controlled detonation of the hand grenade.
The police announce that the cordons at the scene remain in place.
The incident is classified as attempted general destruction and serious crime under the law on flammable and explosive goods.
